My Shopping Trip Today $91.24

I got some great deals today, but it's amazing how fast the totals add up! I was under budget for the last two weeks, so I still have quite a bit of money left in my food budget. I spent some of my household budget today on Laundry Detergent and Dish washing Detergent that I found on Clearance, I also had some coupons that were about to expire so I was glad to be able to use them. I shouldn't have to buy these 2 items again for almost 6 months!

TRIP 1 -
Harps: $8.97
Walmart: $20.51
Aldi's: $36.32
Target (Fayetteville): $17.08
= $82.88 ($16.65 Laundry & Dish Washing Detergent, $66.23 Food)

TRIP 2 -
Walmart (Pleasant Crossing) $0.36
Target (Rogers) $8.00
= $8.36
Total: $91.24 ($74.23 Food, $17.01 Household)
At the Target in Fayetteville I found Electrosol marked down to $3.64, My $2.50/1 coupons expired on Sunday 5/17 so I was thrilled to be able to use them and get 3 boxes of Electrosol for only $1.14 each!
I also found Purex (56 load) for only $3.94, I had some Buy 1 Get 1 Free Coupons so I got each bottle for only $1.97 each!!! My Target Price for Laundry Detergent is about $1.50 for 32 loads, so I was under that price which makes me very excited!!!!
This is one of the reasons I spent a little bit more than I planned, I found some really good steak meat at Harps marked down half price! I paid $8.33 for this meat and just fed 6 people for dinner! It was some of the best steak meat I have had in a long time! There were 2 packages marked down and I am wishing now I had bought both of them.
Cereal is marked down at the Target in Rogers to $1.99/box. I had some Kellogg's Coupons that were going to expire on Sunday for $1.00/1 and some coupons for Buy 2 Boxes of Cereal get a Free carton of Eggs. So I got 2 Boxes of Cereal, and 1 Carton of Eggs for $2.00.
I also got my free toilet paper and free 100 calorie snacks. Most of the rest of my expense was Hamburger Meat, Fruits & Veggies, Milk, Cokes, and a few other odds and ends that were on sale. We have so much food that I am running out of places to put things and trying to come up with useful places to store them. :) I am thinking I won't be needing to make a big shopping trip for a long time!

  1. Heather - were you in Target in Fayetteville around 11:15 or so today with a little boy in a shopping cart cover....I was passing by the registers on my way to shop and saw someone with a little boy going thru a stack of coupons and thought "I wonder if that's Heather?".....

  2. Most likely could have been me. I was there this morning about that time. I also ran into another NWA Deals reader, it's so fun to get to meet the faces on the other side of the computer screen! :)

I didn't look my best, I had been working out :)

  3. I've been thinking a lot about laundry detergent lately (does brand matter, what cleans best etc..) and am curious what brand you think works for your son's stains without you having to prewash everything. I also know people that make their own laundry detergent and I know that's easy too. Any insight?

  4. Ha Ha, Okay I am cracking up right now because I have often started to make my own laundry detergent because it's so cheap right? Well my Husband thinks He makes too much money for me to make laundry detergent, he thinks that we sould just pay for somethings :) Cracks me up every time.

Okay to your question. I do not really care about the Laundry Detergent, I am picky about the scents. All is my favorite, Purex is less expensive most of the time. I have heard the Arm & Hammer is really good too and it's on clearance at Target right now.

I use Shout Advanced Spray (in the blue bottle) on my Son's clothes to get the stains out. I spray them when they are still fresh and put them in a pile. It works great!!!! I bleach whites when they get grungy looking, and I use Oxi Clean when I have something I need really clean.

I can get really good deals on Shout at Target and Walgreens so I use that for the stains and things and then I can use any brand of Laundry Detergent that I find on sale. I only use the Oxi Clean on really tough stains so even though it's expensive it last a long time.

Oh, I also wash almost everything in cold water because I think it works just fine on most of our clothes and it saves energy money! I hope that helps!

How funny. My husband says the same thing. :) I think he's afraid I'll try to make his clothes next. lol
I've read that it costs $.08 or so to make your own soap and I know I bought 4 A&H 32 loads for $3 total at Walgreens last year around Christmas - that equals out to much less than making it myself! I just wasn't sure if it cleans as well as homemade or more "name brands." Thanks for your insight. Laundry detergent is one of those things that you hate to have to spend money on because it does cost quite a bit even though you need it!
